Pillar 1v: Emotional

Emotional health & intelligence is really what this is all about. I currently don’t have either, but I’m fixated on FEELING all of my emotions again and learning how to maximize them in my every day life; the way I did when I was young, the way I did before I joined the military, the way I once did when the love and enjoyment and HAPPINESS of life was there.

I remember it, I can still feel my feelings at times for a fleeting few moments, and I WILL teach myself once again how to live a life filled with love, passion, intention, and emotional health & integrity.

Here’s how I do it and how The Dillon Burns Method practitioner will set up their EMOTIONAL pillar:

  • Guided Yoga or meditation, focused on breathing. Any of the MENTAL resources will help you with this. Be sure to utilize one, if not all of them daily.

  • You need to be able to learn something about yourself and to do this, you must suffer. Here’s exactly what I do that tremendously helps to bring out emotions through my own suffering (read: growth):

    • Sauna x 30:00 directly into

    • Cold shower x 5:00 directly into

    • Steam x 20:00 directly into

    • Cold shower x 5:00 directly into

    • Sauna x 10-15:00 directly into

    • Cold shower x 5:00

  • This IS NOT IN PHYSICAL because this is not a workout. I do this to test myself, to do something that will teach me about myself and while I’m doing it, something happens. Through this pain & suffering, my emotional states are heightened and I can FEEL EVERYTHING. It’s an amazing process - through self-induced pain and suffering, real life feelings and emotions happen.

  • While I’m doing this, I take my mind off of how bad it may physically feel and go deep inside my thoughts and emotions. I think about: My life; what’s happened in my life and how it’s made me feel; what I am capable of and what I will achieve with my life; how much I love and cherish my children & wife; anything that will invoke an intense emotional state.

  • When I’m done and out in the world, I refer back to how I felt in these moments and it helps guide me through to unlocking my emotional states and being present with love, passion, and intention.

  • Add or subtract time to ease into it or add intensity of experience.

  • Repeat 1-3x every week. I do this on Sunday morning before the world wakes up.
